Glucuronide and Metabolite Services

Glucuronidation of a range of ingested xenobiotcs (compounds not normally considered part of our diet including drugs, pesticides, pollutants etc.) is a naturally occurring process in our bodies.

Companies involved in drug development often need to establish the metabolic fate of their trial compounds when ingested. To do this appropriate analytical standards are required. GlycoSyn offers glucuronidation services by enzymatic synthesis and chemical synthesis.

Enzymic synthesis of glucuronide metabolites

Through its association with IRL, GlycoSyn has the capability to carry out enzymatic glucuronidation reactions on compounds in a way that mimics the processes occurring naturally in our bodies and then purify the resultant products for use as analytical standards.

We have experience in production of glucuronide standards from milligram to gram scale using our enzymatic methodologies.

Our in-house NMR, HPLC, and LCMS facilities allow us to provide material that meets client specifications for identity and purity.

Chemical synthesis of glucuronides

Together with our colleagues in the Carbohydrate Chemistry team at IRL, GlycoSyn holds a significant pool of experience surrounding the chemistry of Glucuronic acid. This includes the protection/deprotection and glycosylation of Glucuronic acid derivatives.

Application of this chemistry, together with suitable chromatographic purification and analytical techniques, allows us to provide glucuronide derivatives of high purity in gram quantities. Characterisation of these compounds is accomplished using our in-house NMR and LCMS facilities.
